Education on Human Rights - an essential element in the formation of a responsible citizen
One of the problems identified by the NGO Azi is lack of knowledge on citizens' rights, especially of people with disabilities and their parents, of elderly/retired, and vulnerable people. The NGO Azi launched a project supported by DVV International Moldova which aims to facilitate the access of adults from vulnerable groups in four localities in Cahul to educational services based on real learning needs on human rights.
People are facing the following aspects: they do not know what their rights are and how to ask for them; they do not know to whom and how to submit an official letter, a petition, a request, a complaint; they do not know which are the facilities for employment and do not know how to write a cover letter, a CV; they do not know what are allowances for pensioners; where to get information. Many pensioners remain with their grandchildren in care and do not know that they have to write a request on establishing guardianship, they do not know how to address an official letter, what obligations and rights are on taking care of a child. All these problems come from lack of information and access to adult education - learning is the opportunity to solve various social problems, including those mentioned above.
The project AO Azi aims to train librarians, social workers, teachers from four localities in Cahul district on human rights. They in turn will disseminate information in localities they come from. Also, AO Azi has already 10 year experience in working with volunteers and aims to train young people in volunteering. Thus, young people trained and supported by local authorities will contribute to local development, promote active involvement in community life.
This project will highlight the human potential from rural localities, will encourage the involvement of representatives of various institutions in promoting adult education, will strengthen the capacities of librarians and other community institutions, will create prerequisites for libraries and other institutions to become Centers for Adult Education in rural areas.
