How do local adult learning and education (ALE) practices contribute to a global perspective on quality lifelong education, and vice versa? You will find the answers to these questions in our latest publications.
CONFINTEA is a global high-level conference organised by UNESCO, bringing together governments, civil society, academia, and international organisations. Since 1949, CONFINTEA has played a key role in setting the global agenda for adult learning and education, defining priorities, and encouraging countries to strengthen lifelong learning systems.
The most recent conference, held in 2022, resulted in the adoption of the Marrakech Framework for Action, a strategic document that guides countries in advancing Adult Learning and Education as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In this context, we are pleased to present two recent publications:
Adult learning and education in the context of CONFINTEA and the SDG agenda and Local policies and practices in adult learning and education.
Together, they bring forward the voices of civil society from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine, translating global commitments into national and local realities.
They provide:
Country case studies reflecting civil society perspectives;
Role of municipalities, community learning centres, and partnerships in expanding access to lifelong learning;
Practical insights and inspiring approaches to strengthening inclusive and sustainable ALE systems;
Policy recommendations to strengthen governance and financing of ALE.
Together, these publications connect local practice with global policy, demonstrating how cooperation between governments, civil society, and academia can strengthen Adult Learning and Education and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
This publication was developed within the Continental Exchange Project 'Europe', which is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
