Dear colleagues,
DVV International Ukraine has been promoting the values of lifelong learning and education and developing adult education in the country for already 12 years. Education intends to strengthen the values of peace, democracy, and mutual respect. Also, it is one of the crucial factors to shape up the civic society. Education is a tool to enhance critical thinking of individuals and to counter disinformation.
Nevertheless, now in our country we are talking not about the development of learning and education. We are talking about the physical safety of people. Ukraine faced unprovoked and severe aggression from the Russian Federation, which has already led to numerous deaths and casualties among the civics.
As of 1 March, 352 people including 16 children were killed and 1684 people (116 children) wounded in Ukraine during six days of the Russian invasion. The number of injured civilians keeps growing, many people have lost their homes. Read more on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine by the link.
Many countries support Ukraine during these difficult days offering homes and organizing shelters for refugees, donating costs, creating ideas how to resist the aggression. DVV International Ukraine expresses gratitude to everyone who supports our country in such tough times. However, we would like also to encourage the representatives of the foreign organisations to incentivize and support appeals to the governments of their countries, as well as appeals to the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation with the following request:
- to protect the Ukrainian sky by sending peacekeeping aircraft here;
- to promote the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the United Nations Security Council, to enact the UN peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine;
- provide Ukraine with as maximal military, financial and humanitarian support as possible.
Unfortunately, the policy of appeasing the aggressor has led to irreparable consequences. We encourage colleagues to act as quickly as possible.
It is now not only about the peace in Ukraine. It is about the safety of the whole world.
With kind regards and gratitude,
DVV International Ukraine Team
