Self-employment of young women by harnessing tourism prospects

Reduced employment opportunities, especially in rural areas and the general state of apathy of citizens has lead to the development of the by the NGO Pro Community Bahrinești  in collaboration with DVV International Moldova in neighbouring localities of zone Marculesti, district Floresti.  

The objective of the project is empowering 20 unemployed young women in v. Bahrinesti, district Floresti with entrepreneurial skills and the provision of tourism services and guidance to 200 people from the rural communities to take active steps in the development of the zone Marculesti.

In the village there are young women who initiated agricultural businesses: ecological vegetable cultivation, breeding rabbits, goats, Mangalita pigs, bees, growing berries, making pastry goods etc. But for a sustainable income these businesses need to be developed and upgraded, tourism prospects of these businesses must be discovered and exploited in times when Bahrinesti locality is being visited more often by many tourists, experts, volunteers, and visitors, including people from abroad. The picturesque environment, traditions and folklore, colourful national costumes, healthy traditional dishes and ecological products with products from household gardens with basil, accommodation in Casa Mare (Big House), master-classes are just a few components of the success of these businesses.

The project will lead to the attainment by women of new skills, the decrease in the number of young women who emigrate to the formation of proactive attitude in life, prevention of crisis situations in families, better involvement in solving community problems, coverage of the real need for agro business development by complying with the provisions in Title VII of the Education Code of the RM on lifelong learning.

The project will also disseminate the good practice of the village with 12 mayors initiated in village Bahrinesti in 12 localities from zone Marculesti. The community facilitators will be the 12 volunteer mayors from v. Bahrinesti district Floresti. The activity aims to facilitate dialogue between citizens and local authorities for improving living conditions in the community and active mobilization of citizens for community development.
