The kick-off meeting of the project «Active for education in prison 2.0»

Representatives of DVV International offices in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus and Moldova met in Kyiv

Representatives of DVV International offices in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus and Moldova met in Kyiv.

At a regional two-day meeting dedicated to the start of the project «Active for education in prison 2.0», participants identified key strategic areas of work, agreed on a schedule for project activities, and discussed interaction with journalists and ways to engage the media.

The project «Active for education in prison 2.0» is aimed at increasing the number of NGOs working in prisons and custodial facilities and capacity-building in working with (ex-)prisoners.

Among the main objectives of the project, participants highlighted the creation and support of educational projects for prisoners and those who are preparing for release and strengthening the interaction among civil society actors.

According to Oleksiy Zagrebelny, the head of the non-profit organization FREE ZONE, one of the basic conditions for people to have the opportunity to change while serving their sentence is to be able to get a general, professional education or to take non-formal courses and get the necessary life skills.

This will help a person to re-socialize and become a part of society. The chance that the crime will be done again is diminishing.

The project is financially supported by the Federal Foreign Office.
