The team of DVV International Belarus presented the concept “learning city” in Gomel

The implementation of the program “Learning city for creative economy” continued with a roundtable discussion on the 5th of September, 2017 in Gomel City. The meeting was held on the premises of Gomel Department of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the support of local authorities.

 

The participants were the specialists of Gomel City Executive Committee, representatives of public (universities and colleges) and private education centers, tourism business, international agencies and non-governmental organizations.

 

The presentation of the concepts “learning city” and “creative economy” was made within the program, and a retrospective overview of DVV International Belarus and its partner organizations’ activities in Gomel was made. A vivid example of creative economy was presented by the CEO of Gomel Department of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Filonova Marina Vladimirovna. She spoke about creating the image of Gomel City and its positioning on the European scene.

 

The discussion was devoted to the prospects of introducing the concept “learning city” in Gomel City as a means of achieving sustainable development goals.

 

 DVV International Belarus has been carrying out educational activities in Gomel and Gomel region in cooperation with local partners since 2010. In 2015-2017, a project “Education opens doors” was implemented in cooperation with NGO “Community Development Projects”. The project aimed to broaden the access to education for prison inmates. However, the concept “learning city” was presented by DVV International Belarus in Gomel for the first time – further work will be conducted by a working group created at the round table.
