The second contest of youth historical works “Behind the scenes: from family history to community history” has started in Belarus. The competition aims to study the vivid history of Belarus in the second half of the 20th century through the study of family and local photo archives and eyewitness accounts.
The organizers suggest that young people from 15 to 25 years old would pay attention to the little-studied sides of the history of Belarus in the period from 1945 to 2000. Among the proposed topics are everyday life, youth subcultures, the transformation of gender roles in families, informal youth movements and others. The research work should be based on the analysis of archival photographs, as well as oral stories of eyewitnesses of the events. Detailed information about the competition and conditions of participation can be found on the website pazakadram.tilda.ws.
The official presentation of the contest will be held on September 19, 2019 at the Yanka Kupala Central Library (V. Horuzhey St., 16). Presentation time: from 16.00 to 18.00 hours. In addition to detailed information on how the contest will be held this year, there will be an opportunity to learn more about working with photo archives, as well as to have a conversation with participants and curators of the contest from last year.
Participation in the presentation is free, in order to participate please register until September 17, 2019.
We invite teachers, educators, representatives of NGOs, historians, media and all, who are interested!
