Young history lovers are welcome to take part in a competition

The Representative Office of the German Adult Education Association in the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with Youth public association “Historyka” announces the competition "Behind the scenes: from the family history to the history of the community".

The competition is held within the framework of the project “History Competition in Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine” with the support of the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany. The project is implemented by DVV International and Körber Foundation in cooperation with international network EUSTORY and local organizations in participating countries.

COMPETITION objective: to promote the study of history through research and project activities, facilitate the development of local study, study of family history and its relationship with the processes and phenomena occurring in the local community and country, and to teach participants how to work with the oral history method and photo documents.

COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS:

We accept research work from young people aged 15-25 years. Participants of the competition should be: high school students, students of various educational institutions, young professionals, young NGO activists, activists of youth clubs, study clubs, sections, etc.

The presence of the tutor (mentor) is welcomed.

The tutor may be a school teacher, pedagogue, instructor (including those from institutions of adult education), NGO activist, leader of youth clubs, study circles, sections, museums, libraries, etc.

The tutors are those who are ready to provide informational, advisory and curatorial support to participants during the preparation of the competition work as well as promote dissemination of information on the competition among potential participants.

DATES OF THE COMPETITION:

The competition is held from December 20, 2017 until May 5, 2018. Works sent after May 5, 2018, are not accepted.

The results of the competition will be presented after June 20, 2018 on the websites <link belarus>www.dvv-international.org.ua/belarus and historica.by.

THEMATIC FIELD OF THE COMPETITION

It is proposed to pay attention to the poorly studied aspects of the history of Belarus in the Soviet period of the second half of the 20th century (1945-1991) and to prepare research on the correlation between the history of an individual, a family and the processes and phenomena occurring in the local community and the country on the basis of working with photograph/s of the family archive and their analysis, interviews with witnesses of events and phenomena in the photograph/s.

COMPETITIVE WORK

Competitive works should be sent only in an electronic form to pazakadram@gmail.com with a topic “Competitive work”. Requirements for execution of the competitive works can be found in the Regulations on the Competition.

SELECTION OF WINNERS

A special jury that includes professional historians, journalists, photographers, members of the project team will be formed to select the winner. Competition works will be evaluated by age group of the participants.

The winners will receive valuable prizes and certificates. The best works will be presented at a special award ceremony in Minsk in the summer of 2018.

Competition winners will also have a chance to participate in the International History Camp in Berlin in 2018.

All participants of the competition and their tutors will receive special certificate of participation.
