Adult education, non-formal education and lifelong learning – contribution to the development of civil society in Belarus

The project was being implemented in 2010-2011 within the Support Program for Belarus (FpB) by the Representative Office of the German Adult Education Association in the Republic of Belarus, International Public Association “Education without Borders” and Public Association “Focus group” and contributed to the development of non-formal education in Belarus as an important instrument of additional adult education. On the one hand, teaching of the non-state educational organizations staff was organized, common concepts within the framework of lifelong education were worked out. On the other hand, dialogue between the country and civil society on the topics of non-formal education was established. For that purpose many large cities of Belarus hosted trainings, forums and the Festival of Non-Formal Education.

The ІІІ Festival of non-formal education took place on October 8 – 10, 2010. Its main aim was to demonstrate the contribution of non-formal education in the improvement of quality of life. About 250 members of nearly 120 social, private and state organizations working in the field of education and enlightenment from Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Germany, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine participated in the Festival that took place in the Johannes Rau International Centre for Education and Exchange (IBB).
